MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION

 

ATTENTION :

 

Under Section 7(1) Road Transport Act 1987, no individual can own or use an unregistered motor vehicle. The owner may be subjected to a fine of not more than RM2,000.00.

 


GUIDE FOR REGISTRATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES

Pre-registration arrangements

 

    The following arrangements must be done before registering a vehicle with the RTD :

  • Settlement of all duties levied by Custom and Excise Department.

  • Import Permit (AP) from Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) for new or used imported vehicles.

  • Approval letter or permit from Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) for commercial vehicles.

  • Inspection of the imported vehicle .



LOCAL VEHICLES REGISTRATION

 

Required documents :

  • Completed JPJK1 form

  • National Identity Card and its photocopy

  • Appendix A (Letter of Indemnity)

  • Excise 7 form - for locally assembled vehicles.

  • Approval letter for a tendered registration number (if any)

  • Purchase documents

  • Letter of ownership claim (if any)

  • Letter of authority (if represented by agent/individual)

  • Insurance policy/cover note

 


IMPORTED VEHICLE REGISTRATION

Required documents :

  • Completed JPJK1 form

  • National Identity Card and its photocopy

  • Appendix A (Letter of Indemnity)

  • Custom Form (Form 1, 8, or 9 - please refer to Custom & Excise Department.)

  • Original import permit (AP)

  • Certificate of origin for used vehicle

  • Inspection report from PUSPAKOM

  • Purchase documents

  • Approval letter for a tendered registration number (if any)

  • Letter of ownership claim (if any)

  • Insurance policy/cover note

  • Letter of authority (if represented by an agent/individual)


COMMERCIAL VEHICLE REGISTRATION

 

Required documents :

  • Completed JPJK1 form

  • Certificate of business/company registration, or memorandum and articles of association (certified photocopy)

  • Excise 7 form - for locally assembled vehicles.

  • Custom form (Form 1,8 or 9) for imported vehicles

  • Inspection report from PUSPAKOM

  • Weighing report from PUSPAKOM

  • Permission letter for construction of vehicle's body (buses)

  • AVRF certificate and valuation (for trailers, semi-trailers and buses)

  • Original approval from Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (LPKP) and its photocopy.

  • Letter of ownership claim (if any)

  • Purchase documents

  • Insurance policy/cover note

  • Letter of authorization (if represented by an agent/individual)
